- About Virtually Olivia -

Welcome to the chronicle of places I go, and events I attend in my Second Life travels. I post lots of photos and landmarks to get to stops I recommend. Most of this blog - but not all - is dedicated to educational builds or places pertaining to education. I am an ardent Second Life traveler, and this blog reflects that. Olivia Hotshot. Review of seven Second Life language translators by Apollo Manga

Comprehensive article well worth a Diigo bookmark and a Twine to be used as a resource.
Thank you to Claudia Linden for Tweeting this story:

"About 54% of Second Life members live in non-English speaking countries. Most speak widely used languages like German, French, and Spanish, but others speak languages such as Portuguese, Turkish, and Korean. Many also speak English, but often not well. How do we communicate with them when we meet them? We can and should learn foreign languages, but no one can learn them all. Is there another way?"

"Yes. Over a half dozen automatic language translating HUD’s are available in Second Life. Some of them are free. Each of them translates at least 32 languages. The odds are that one of them will work for you. They only translate typed text at present – automatic translation of speech will be a major technical challenge – but they should allow you to hold a basic conversation in a wide variety of languages."

"Koinonia Congregation is an actual congregation meeting in Second Life opening its doors and its heart to people of various theologies, sexual orientations, and faith experiences, Koinonia practices God's extravagant welcome for all. Koinonia Christians celebrate the abundance of life and welcome the diversity of God's people."

"We at Koinonia seek to offer a safe space in which people from around the world engage in a community of ecumenical faith that represents liberal protestant values where all are valued as sacred children of God. We are grounded in a social gospel ethic and liberation theology, combined with a feminist pedagogy, we aim to walk the journey with others, faithfully."

About the mess....

My objective was noble. I decided last November of 2007 to blog about my travels through Second Life for an entire year and then import it into Blurb and publish a book. I did rather well and established a group of readers who seemed to enjoy watching me via the photographs I took during my interactions. Unfortunately, I decided to play with some settings and created a secondary blog to augment my already prolific accumulation of posts. As usual, I changed my mind and deleted that blog. As fate would have it, I also deleted the Travels of Olivia Hotshot blog as well. Stupid. Very stupid.

I submitted the standard "Like a moron I accidentally deleted my blog and please oh please resurrect it!" form letter to Google, but after 2 weeks of waiting I realize it probably is not going to reappear. Luckily, I downloaded the entire accumulation to Blurb sometime in August, so I can at least operate on that much to create a book.

I truly hope you start reading again and continue to watch me as i cruise through the virtual world I love so dearly.

Best Regards and Mind your Step,
~Olivia
